When we started to design our Decorative Glass range many years ago, our engineers were aware of the four needs to be covered, all of equal importance: light control, privacy, decoration and energy savings. HCDS’s objective was to improve the lighting conditions of a room, as it has been proven to affect our health, behaviour and mood. We had to control the amount of light entering a room, minimize annoying reflections caused by light on computer and Television screens
, and study the lighting differences between exposed and non-exposed surfaces to solar radiation among others. The key factor was to maintain privacy inside the room at home or in the office, always taking decorative features into consideration. Screens play an important role in the decoration of a room and, at the same time, give us privacy, thanks to a well thought-out construction, which allows views from the inside out but not from the outside in. Finally, at a time when preserving the environment is a task that concerns us all, we intend, with our screens, to reduce the air conditioning needs of any space, while significantly improving the effects of sound reverberation.
Generally, a variety of materials is available for fabricating a decorative screen:
Mild Steel: is one of the best materials and can be completed with powder-coating. Screens in lobbies, restaurants and homes can be made from this material, though it is not very hard-wearing and not suitable for exteriors lest re-coating and rust-proofing are frequently carried out. Stainless steel is another alternative, which can be polished, painted or etched/embossed etc. and is also pocket-friendly.
Aluminum: For a light-weight, easily portable decorative piece, this is the finest metal option. However, it’s eventually the finishing, painting, anodizing or coating that make aluminum look sophisticated. Otherwise it can look messy and cheap. It may also dull with exposure to sun and rain if left outside. Our decorative screens made of the highest tenacity polyester, is perfectly flexible to be exposed outdoors and extremely resistant to climate changes thanks to the PVC coating. These screens have fibre glass amongst the elements used in manufacturing, which provides a better dimensional stability. In both cases the result is an elegant awning or curtain which decorates and offers fantastic thermal properties.
